21 September 09 - Lunch Break
We returned to camp after the morning drive and did the usual eat, rest and relax (and archive pictures to hard drives!) thing for a while. My sister, Michael and Gary went for a walking tour of the area with Lucky and another Ranger. I was going to go as well but my feet were hurting (bad feet) so I stuck around camp. My mother sat on the deck at the common area where the internet was available. Of course we all had cameras as well..
Mala Mala's ground are a good place to watch wildlife without even going on a drive, and this day did not disappoint! I got some great shots of Nyala, which are sort of funny looking and yet beautiful animals.

Some of the shots show just how close the animals are to the buildings and guests-

The railing you see is the deck of the main common area.

There was a colorful bird flying around in the trees in the yard and I tried to get a good shot of him. Eventually I realized that I was watching part of a mating ritual in progress!

This is a bird that I saw land in the tree, but nobody else was quite able to see.

I do not know what it is, of course, and I may never know but here is the proof that there WAS a bird there!
At one point my sister and I were both in our rooms and mom up at the deck when we saw a herd of elephants walking by in the wash behind our rooms. Susan and I both got pictures of the elephants and mom also got a couple of shots of us taking pictures of the elephants!

We also saw some giraffe walking through the wash, but the pictures I got of them aren't quite so good- I need a longer lens, I think....
