Yes, Virginia, I know there are no penguins in California.

To make a long story short, my sister had to go to San Diego for work and the trip turned into a two week vacation for the extended family- myself, my mother, sister and nephew.

While there we were beguiled by the pelicans in particular- we have each seen a few before, but they were everywhere, all the time.

My mother thought they looked somewhat prehistoric in ways and took to calling them pterodactyls. I had a brain cramp one day and came out with "penguin" (I think we had been at the zoo that day, in my defense.)

The last post-vacation travelogue I put on the interweb is Mashatutiger.com, named for a game reserve that, of course, has no tigers. My sister suggested Penguins of Mission Beach to follow the trend I seem to have started for erroneously named web sites.

I like it.
